MSA Social Groups

DISABILITIES AND CARERS LOUNGE

You can come chill out in our Disabilities and Carers lounge in the MSA space where we run a range of weekly events such as teas and discussion groups, giving students a chance to develop a support network and meet some new friends. We also have a department week every semester where we run both educational and social workshops.

FOR FRIENDS / ALLIES

If you are a friend of someone with disability or caring responsibilities, it is important to know how to best support and advocate for them. The best way to learn to support someone is often by asking them or researching information about their condition, however Monash University offers a range of training and guidelines to help you get started:

Safe Talk: Suicide Prevention Training

  • 3.5 hour workshop on how to recognise the signs of suicide

Mental health first aid

  • Two-day workshop on skills and strategies on providing help to someone with a mental health issue

Understanding mental health

  • Recognise distress in others
  • Learn about the support services available within the university and wider community

Information about these programs can be found here.
