For Students with Disability and/or Caring Responsibilities
What is a disability?
Disability is a complex interaction between a person, their condition and their environment. It can be physical, medical, intellectual, psychological, learning, sensory, and immunological, and its course can be chronic, fluctuating, and/or temporary. Disability is also not always visible; invisible illnesses and mental health illnesses and conditions are often not obvious to other people.
Who is a carer?
A carer is anyone with caring responsibilities for someone with a disability, mental illness, ongoing medical condition, and/or older person with care needs who is substantially dependent on you for ongoing care. This care and support is often unpaid, and can be in the form of emotional, social, or financial support.
