MSA Language Drop-In

This program aims to provides a peer-to-peer educational and cultural experience. We have an increasing number of students who wish to travel, go on exchange or simply have an interest to learn a different language.

We hope to provide these students with a free service where they can learn language basics and the opportunity to practice their new found language skills through materials and through group catch-ups.

Program Structure

The program is broken down into two sections

Week 1: 2 Hour Elementary Class

This is structured like a class and is very intensive. We aim to provide you with as much information as you need for the rest of the program.

Week 2 - 10: 1 hour Class and Conversation Practice

Depending on the language, you might have a different theme each week or follow on from the previous week.


When are the classes held?

Arabic

  • Elementary Class: Wednesday 31st July 2-4pm
  • 1 hour Class and Conversation Practice: Wednesdays 2-3pm (Week 2-10)

  • Elementary Class: Monday 29th July 2-4pm
  • 1 hour Class and Conversation Practice: Mondays 3-4pm (Week 2-10)

  • Elementary Class: Friday 2nd August 2-4pm
  • 1 hour Class and Conversation Practice: Fridays 2-3pm (Week 2-10)

  • Elementary Class: Thursday 1st August 3-5pm
  • 1 hour Class and Conversation Practice: Thursdays 3-4pm (Week 2-10)

  • Elementary Class: Friday 2nd August 11-1pm
  • 1 hour Class and Conversation Practice: Fridays 1-2pm (Week 2-10)

Where will the classes be held?

After you have registered you will be given access to specific language Facebook groups. You will be notified on this Facebook group. Some class locations to alter each week.

How are the volunteer facilitators selected?

The Volunteer Facilitators are Monash students who are fluent in their chosen language. It may be their first language or second or third! They were also chosen because they demonstrated passion and enthusiasm during their application and interview, and they showed an enormous desire to help their peers learn a new language.

How do I become a Language Drop In Facilitator?

Applications are always open, but applications are looked at in April/May for Semester Two and September/October for the following year.
