Free Language Classes

This program aims to provides a peer-to-peer educational and cultural experience. We have an increasing number of students who wish to travel, go on exchange or simply have an interest to learn a different language.

We hope to provide these students with a free service where they can learn language basics and the opportunity to practice their new found language skills through materials and through group catch-ups.

Program Structure

Semester 1& 2 Week 2–10: 1-2 hour Classes and Conversation Practice

Depending on the language, you might have a different theme each week or follow on from the previous week.


When are the classes held?

Classes are held during week 2-10 (potentially till week 11 is a week is affected due to the mid semester break) each semester.

Semester 1 registrations are open from mid/late February until the end of semester 1 week 1
Semester 2 registrations are open from late July until the end of semester 2 week 1


Where will the classes be held?

After you have registered you will be emailed and given access to specific language Facebook groups. In this email, you will be notified of the location of your classes and will be reminded weekly through your language Facebook group. Some class locations do alter each week.

How are the volunteer facilitators selected?

The Volunteer Facilitators are Monash students who are fluent in their chosen language. It may be their first language or second or third! They were also chosen because they demonstrated passion and enthusiasm during their application and interview, and they showed an enormous desire to help their peers learn a new language.

How do I become a Language Drop In Facilitator?

Applications are always open, but applications are looked at in April/May for Semester Two and September/October for the following year.
