Events and Technical Support Officer

MSA is seeking a full-time professional in an Events and Technical Support role.

MSA is a student-led organisation at Monash Clayton Campus. We host 100s of events each year, ranging from small community catch-ups, to major live music events.

The Events & Technical Support Officer will work with both our student representatives and professional staff team. They will provide support in the planning and operation of student activities; coordination of technical equipment and resources; and audio, lighting, and logistical production for live events.

Role information

As a student organisation of Monash University, MSA provides services and support to the over 48,000 students on the Clayton campus. Our Student Representatives run events, campaigns, and programs to support student wellbeing and campus life.

The Events and Technical Support Officer provides guidance and operational support to Student Representatives in the running of events and activities. This includes planning, supplier relationships, logistical support, and technical support. The role will work with other staff within the Student Representative Support Unit to ensure students can run successful, safe and relevant events.

They also coordinate resources and equipment needed for events. This includes maintenance and inventory, as well as setting up and operating of technical equipment. In some instances, it will include training students in the operation of said equipment. The incumbent should be familiar with lighting and audio production for live events, as well as staging, truss, trolleys, and other associated equipment. Familiarity with relevant AV systems is desirable - Digico, Adamson, Sennheiser and Megadeck.

This position will work closely with elected students on a daily basis. These students are in a unique position, often coming into the role with little event management experience, but big ideas and a desire to serve their community. There is therefore a significant element of guiding and mentoring. It is important that the role provides advice and support, while maintaining the principles of student leadership and autonomy. The incumbent will guide students to ensure their activities work within policies and procedures; relevant legislation; budget and resourcing constraints; as well as crucial training compliance and risk assessment requirements.

Role Details

This is a full time role, 36.75 hours per week. Regular working hours are Monday - Friday only, 8am - 6pm. Occasional out-of-hours work will be covered by TOIL. It will be expected that the incumbent not take leave during peak periods (Orientation week, and during major events).

MSA is located on Monash Clayton Campus. This is primarily an onsite role, with some work-from-home opportunities outside semester.

To apply, please upload your CV and cover letter via the application form. Written responses to Key Selection Criteria must also be included. Applications close 2/9/25 or when position filled. Early applications encouraged.
